Nine Feared Dead As Soldiers, IPOB Members Clash In Rivers

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Ipob10
About five soldiers and four members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra have been feared dead after a clash in Oyigbo and other parts of Rivers State.
This brings to seven the number of IPOB members who reportedly died during the #EndSARS and police brutality protest in the state.

The IPOB members were said to have engaged in a shoot-out with a joint security team comprising soldiers and police deployed to quell their activities in Oyigbo, Rumuokwurusi and other flashpoints areas.

Governor Nyesom Wike in a state broadcast on Friday condemned activities of the group despite the 24-hour curfew imposed on the Oyigbo council area.

Wike stated:-

“We were all witnesses to yet another orgy of violence and destruction inflicted by IPOB at Oyigbo Local Government Area and some parts of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

He said:-

“This evil, wicked and audacious action resulted in the unnecessary loss of lives, including soldiers and police officers, and the destruction of both public and private properties, police stations, court buildings and business premises.”

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the IPOB members and soldiers clashed from Thursday night till Friday evening. Spokesman for the 6 Division, Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, Charles Ekeocha, could not be reached for comment on the matter. He didn’t answer calls to his mobile at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the state police command said two cops were killed, four police stations burnt and over 50 vehicles set ablaze by suspected IPOB members who attacked the Oyigbo community and other areas in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, stated this when he led commanders of other security agencies in the state to the Oyigbo council area on Saturday.

In a statement by the spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, the CP had ordered a full scale investigation into the incident with a view to appending and prosecuting the culprits.

The statement stated:-
“The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan today (Saturday) led commanders of the sister security agencies in the state to Oyigbo council area where hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB under the guise of #EndSARS protests invaded Oyigbo Area Command, Oyigbo, Afam and Umuebulu Police stations where they attacked the policemen on duty and burnt down the four police formations.

“In the course of the attacks, over 50 vehicles were burnt, including one Armoured Personnel Carrier, killing two policemen who were hacked to death and set ablaze.”

Mukan condemned the attack on public and private property, describing it as ‘ill-conceived, most unfortunate and an ill wind that would blow no one any good,’ while condoling with the families of the slain operatives.

He said:-

“The command will stop at nothing until the perpetrators of these dastardly acts are arrested and brought to justice.’’

BREAKING! The Police Has Banned All Protests In Lagos

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Sanwo-10
All security agencies have been deployed to take charge and enforce the curfew across the state.
The Lagos Police Command has banned all forms of protests or processions in the state indefinitely.

This follows the declaration of a round-the-clock curfew in Lagos by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Protests calling for police reforms across the country have turned violent and fatal.

At least 20 persons have died across the country since the protests were renewed on October 4, 2020.

Police stations have also been burnt in Lagos.

‘The command will resist’

In a statement sent to Pulse and signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adeboji, the Lagos police command says it

“wishes to inform the general public that henceforth no protest or gathering or procession, under whatever guise, is permitted within Lagos state.

“Due to the new development of violent attacks on police officers and men and formations including innocent Nigerians in Lagos state, and the 24-hour curfew imposed by the Lagos state government with effect from 4 pm of today 20th October 2020, all security agencies have deployed adequate personnel to take charge and enforce the curfew across the state.

“In the same vein, the command regrets to confirm the setting ablaze of Orile police station today at about 10 am, where some of our policemen were critically injured and unconfirmed reports state that one of them is dead.

“It’s crystal clear that the #EndSARS protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who want to run down the state and the police command will resist such state of anarchy, unrest and brouhaha with all powers within the ambit of the law.

“While the command is resolute in the sustenance of human rights and democratic tenets, the general public is hereby warned to comply with the curfew and desist from any act of violence in the state as the command will resist such in totality,” the statement added.

“It Is Time To Retreat To Avoid Hijacking” – Ooni Of Ife Pleads To Protesters

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Ooni_o10
The Ooni of Ife has urged the #EndSARs protesters to suspend the protest in order to give the government a chance to fully attend to their demands.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, on Monday, while hosting the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, appealed to the EndSARS protesters across the country to retreat.

Ooni described the #EndSARS protests as a clear message by the Nigerian youth to the government, particularly on the coordinated manner in which the protests were being organised, both in Nigeria and beyond.

“If you look at the #EndSARS protest, you will see that our youths have what it takes to rule the country.

“Since day one, they have shown leadership, accountability and huge sense of responsibility which have sent a clear message to the government.

“Every day at 11:50 pm, they displayed their financial update, and to me, I’m highly amazed with their sense of accountability.

“As a youth leader myself, I am proud that we all have communicated our ideas and it is heartwarming that we have been heard.

“Dear youths, it is time to retreat so as to prevent those with ulterior motives from hijacking the peaceful message of peace.

“The whole world is aware of our peaceful conduct and we must not let some bad elements tarnish this enviable integrity.

“Once again, I wish to urge our youths to stop the protest, for now, and give peace a chance. This will prevent government from using force,”

The royal father said.

On the recent attack on Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s convoy by some hoodlums at the venue of #EndSARS protest in Osogbo, the Ooni described the incidence as unfortunate.

“It is sad and we cannot but condemn it, as it is against the ethos of ‘Omoluabi’ for which we are known in Osun.

“Similarly, I want to commend Mr. Governor for the maturity which he has displayed in the handling of this sensitive issue, notwithstanding the provocation.

“It shows him as a father that he is. May God continue to protect him,”

The Ooni said.

“Police Officers Arrested Me And Forced Me To Take Off My Bra” – #EndSARS Protester, Treasure Nduka

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Treasu10
One of the #EndSARS protesters arrested in Lagos, Treasure Nduka says she was beaten by more than 10 police officers who also forced to take off her bra in their presence.
Narrating her ordeal, Ms. Nduka said the police officers at the Ojuelegba station where she was arrested and detained, shot at protesters and labelled her a criminal.

It would be recalled that the #EndSARS protests, for the past 14 days has rocked many parts of the country, including international cities; and at the same time, there have been reports of security operatives clamping down on youths expressing their displeasure over the growing rate of police brutality in the country.

According to Ms. Nduka,

“At first, it was empowering seeing that a couple of youths were able to make that much impact and at a point, those that were stuck in traffic joined us in the protest. They came down to sympathise with us. It was really peaceful at the beginning. We didn’t know it was going to the extent of police shooting at us.

“When the shooting started, I refused to believe that they were shooting. It sounded like a knockout. We heard the first one from afar and we saw people running, but I insisted that we should take our stand. I was not doing anything wrong, so I didn’t feel the need to run. All of a sudden, I saw a bunch of policemen come out and then I realised that this is actually for real.

“I did not know who to reach out to. The only people who were aware were brothers who had told me not to come out. I saw a policeman running towards me. He dragged me and I was calling out for people to do something. A bunch of other policemen assisted him in dragging me. I was helpless. It was me against 10 0f them. They kept hitting me. I only tried to cover my face so that I don’t get hit on the face. I could not place an identity on any of them because it was all of them present at that point.”

“They said I should pull off my bra. Then, I took off my bra. Everything they did was so unconstitutional,” Nduka added.

Nduka and her colleagues were released after the intervention of Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives.

Obasanjo Speaks On EndSARS Protests, Urges Youths To Stop The Protests

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Oluseg10
Obasanjo spoke when he visited Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun state, on Monday.
He described the #EndSARS protest as the product of an extensive agitation by the Nigerian youth.

He said the youths are clamouring for a better life and there are several ways the government can show it understands their plights by making things easier for them.

“More than 65 percent of our population is under within the ages of 18 and 30; they are not only struggling to acquire education, they are also aspiring for the best that life can offer them,” Obasanjo said.

“Some of them didn’t even get educated, while those who are educated are getting frustrated because of lack of opportunities. We must realize that the lid on the boiling steam would have to be removed.

“But, I believe that there are windows of opportunity which the government can explore to show that it cares about the people’s welfare, especially the youth, as the father of the country and particularly, as the father of the youth.

“Fortunately, the president has children and he knows how youths behave. I believe that the opportunities can still be taken to let the youth know that he, as a father, understands their plight and that his government understands their plight and he is ready to make life better for them.”

On his part, Ogunwusi described the protests as a clear message by the Nigerian youths to the government, particularly on the coordinated manner in which the protests were being organised.

He urged the youths to suspend the protests and give the government the chance to fully attend to their demands.

“If you look at the #EndSARS protest, you will see that our youths have what it takes to rule the country,” he said

“Since day one, they have shown leadership, accountability, and a huge sense of responsibility which have sent a clear message to the government.

“Every day at 11:50 pm, they displayed their financial update, and to me, I’m highly amazed by their sense of accountability.

This will prevent the government from using force.”

BREAKING: Thugs Attack Another Prison In Edo, Free Many Inmates

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Edo11
Suspected thugs have attacked the Oko Medium Security Centre in Edo State, freeing many inmates in the process.
This is coming some hours after a jailbreak at the correctional centre in Benin City.

There has been an outbreak of violence in Edo State following the #EndSARS protests.

A source told SaharaReporters that the thugs, who were in large numbers, also carted away valuables from offices of prison officials.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state.

In a statement, Osarodion Ogie, Secretary to the State Government, said the curfew will remain across the state “till further notice”.

Ogie said hoodlums have hijacked the #EndSARS protest and the government would not allow continuous attacks.

“The curfew is to take effect from 4:00pm, October 19, 2020. This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of #ENDSARS protesters,” the statement reads.

#EndSARS: It’s Your Right To Protest – Buhari Tells Youths

Topics tagged under endsars on 9jaloud Forums - Page 2 Buhari16
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that it was the right of the youths to protest and make certain demands from their leaders.
The President also said that the young generation should be allowed to exercise their fundamental rights, but advised that they should not allow their genuine concerns to be hijacked by hoodlums.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Mr. Dare said President Buhari appealed to #EndSARS protesters to give the federal government time to address their demands as the team set up has already gone to work.

He said that he briefed the President on the protest against police brutality.

According to him,

“Mr. President said the youths of this country have spoken and he has heard and he has since gone to work for the youths of our country.

“The President promised that he will ensure that the reforms he has promised are met, he will make sure that the reforms are long lasting and that the reforms will deliver for our country a police force that we will be proud of.

“He appreciates the fact that they have brought the SARS issues to the fore through their peaceful protest.

“He recognizes the fact that they have called upon the government to do what is necessary and that as the President and a father, he will make sure that the demands as put forward are met.

“The President said that as far as he is concerned, it’s important to allow the younger generation to exercise the freedom to protest and make sure that such protest is in a peaceful manner

“He said that part of the demands that were made is to make sure that those protesting are protected and that any police officer that has in one way or the other attacked any protesters be brought to book.

“So the President thinks it’s a fundamental right, he thinks so long as the protest is peaceful and focused.

“He believes that the youths of this country have the right to demand for certain things.”
