When #Dagrin, #Fela and #2Pac were alive, their music meant so much to us.
We all hate death. We mourn the loss of a dear one not because they were just close to us, but because we won’t get to see them anymore. Their voice, their appearance, they won’t be there again.

It’s the same feeling I had when Dagrin died. The life he professed in Ghetto Dreams wasn’t going to exist, I wasn’t going to hear those emo-rap songs anymore. Tragic.

If I felt that way, I wondered those in the era of Abami Eda, Fela would have felt. The source of afrobeat, one whose stage performance was a template to many, his music was often laden with political commentary and real-life stories.

2Pac might have died in the 90s but it’s so surprising his music still gets played and many draw inspiration from his rap style and the message in his songs.

Ruggedman And A Fan Clash Over The Cause Of Dagrin’s Death

#Ruggedman and a fan on Twitter have clashed over the cause of #Dagrin’s death.
Yesterday made it ten years since indigenous rapper, Dagrin died. Celebrities and fans took to social media platforms celebrate the late rapper and Ruggedman was one of them.

Ruggedman wrote an eulogy to the rapper saying he was honoured to be one of those who witnessed and made use of his great talent.

A fan replying to the tweet wrote,

“There’s something bout dagrin u guys are not telling us and I believe u know de cause of his death @RuggedyBaba Why did his fame only lasted for just one year?”

Ruggedman who didn’t take the question likely, replied by saying

Popular Nigerian rapper, #Ruggedman has joined the rest of celebrity to drop tributes to late indigenous rap maestro, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun also known as #Dagrin, ten years after he passed on.

Ruggedman, in his tribute, said he is honoured to be one of those who witnessed and featured in the late singer’s talent.

He made this known via a tweet he sent out in his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.

DJ Neptune shared his experience with working with late #Dagrin.

DJ Neptune in a tweet also revealed that Dagrin wrote and recorded his verse in 2010 hit song, “123” in less than ten minutes. When a fan expressed his astonishment at the tweet, DJ Neptune replied,

M.I Abaga said that the first time he had Dagrin’s rap was during a conversation with a friend who was an A&R for artists and the friend played one of his artists’ song and he was amazed by Dagrin verse.

He shared how he was to perform in Sound Sultan‘s Satelite town end of the year party and he was blown away by Dagrin’s performance of his then-unreleased hit song, “Pon Pon”.

Today is the 10th year death anniversary of the indigenous rapper, #Dagrin and #Vector have joined the throngs of people celebrating him today.
Dagrin who had only 3 albums released at the peak of his career (between 2009 and 2010) released his first album in 1994 and had two albums released after his demise in 2011 and 2016 respectively.

Vector took to Twitter to pen a lovely tribute to the late rapper saying he and the rapper never had a close relationship other than that of respect.

5 Reasons Why Dagrin Songs Are Unforgettable By Nigerians Even After His Death

#Dagrin is unforgettable, even after 10 years since his death, the legacy he built still soar so high.
Whenever Dagrin’s name is mentioned, so many things strikes your brain about how dope and legendary he is.

Dagrin is one of the most inspirational hip-hop figures, of our time he’s even considered the Greatest of all rappers, ever lived.

At Naijaloaded, we made a quick on the reasons most Nigerian still remembers many Dagrin’s songs like it was released yesterday.

Nigerians can’t forget Dagrin’s songs. Here’s why;

1. Relatable
How do you forget a song like “Ghetto Dreams” when sometimes you feel the song talks about you?

The content touches you each time you hear it because Everyone can relate.

What of songs like “Pon Pon Pon” although made to sound braggadocios and funny, don’t you relate with lyrics like “mo le feyin si pepsi”? Or don’t you open Pepsi with your teeth?

OK, what of the song “Democracy” don’t you relate with it A-Z.

2. Simple
Although delivered in pure Yoruba, there are no tough words you’ll have to rack your brain to get, in his songs.

Simple simple stuff, that even an Igbo can understand. He never minces his words, and for no reason does he mumbles.

He also doesn’t do very fast stuff, so that people can grab it, as fast as possible. He was never dragging fastest rapper, he did his stuff simply.

Simply means, a day old child will understand. Period!

3. Inspirational
You can’t forget a song that inspired you. You can’t. Come to think of it, this is what Dagrin’s songs are filled with.

Inspiration! From “Ghetto Dreams” to the gospel “Thank God” the sarcastic “If I Die” and satiric “Democracy,” every line, every sentence, you know, he knows what he’s saying.

You can’t but get inspired.

4. Dope
When Dagrin died, in fact Even before his sad demise, he was the yardstick for measuring how dope a rapper is. You hear stuff like, “he’s good but not as good as Dagrin,” and that’s ’cause he’s very dope.

From his lyricism to his flow, and then the way he rides his beats, easily, you’ll know he’s talented. And he’s honed that talent, and he gave his best!

5. Hip Hop
Considered the only rapper who never “went commercial” commercial rebels like the old Oladips, Obadice et al have been linked with Dagrin.

Dagrin was strictly hip-hop, despite how Afro-Pop was selling in the market.

Even M.I Abaga had to go commercial, but till Dagrin died, he stood his ground, and hip-hop fans, if for nothing else, respect him for that.
