Police have apprehended a suspected serial sex offender, Emmanuel Isaac, for drugging and raping a 20-year-old hawker in Minna, Niger State.
The victim, who sells buns, accused the suspect of drugging her after which he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim said that she was selling her goods when Isaac came and hypnotised her after which she lost consciousness, adding that she recalled that she woke up feeling dizzy and in an unstable state in a room.
She stated that she regained consciousness in the afternoon and saw herself naked with her wares by her side inside the room of the suspect.
She said:
“He came in and told me to dress up and took me to his shop but I was still feeling somehow. So I sat in his shop and he went out, I saw three women passing and I asked them where is this area, they asked me who brought me here and I told them that I did not know how I got here as she recounted what transpired.
“They told me that that was not the first time he (suspect) would be doing this and asked me to come to Rayuwa SARC to report the case. They gave me transport fare and called a motorcyclist to take me to SARC.”
Speaking with our correspondent, the Administrative Secretary, RAYUWA Sexual Abuse Referral Centre, Mrs Anne Nwakpuda, on Monday said that the case was reported to the Kpakungun Police Station where the suspect had been brought for similar cases.
According to her, the Police confirmed that the suspect had cases regarding drugging and raping girls around his neighbourhood.
Nwakpuda said:
“Just like Emmanuel, there are many perpetrators who have pending cases of rape and still engaging in raping more girls making more serial rapists on our streets.
“If justice can be done on time, it will save our girls and women from these perpetrators. It hurts the victims so much when there is a delay in judgment. Imagine someone raped a girl and the victim still sees him flaunting and moving around in the community like nothing is wrong!”
Nwakpuda, who acknowledged that the courts were overloaded with cases, pleaded that sexual offences should be given priority. She added that it would give the victim a sense of justice and make them know that they have done the right thing by reporting the case to the right quarters.
