WhatsApp has upgraded their app and have added a new feature which allows group admins to add description or aim of the group chat on their whatsapp group.
Please note that this latest update is currently being rolled out on Windows Phone, Android and iOS devices.
The group description feature is only available for Windows Phone and Android beta testers for group owners..
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
The description can be seen by all the members of the group at the top of the group info section.
Additionally, when sharing a group link to some people to join, the description will also be shown to them in form of an excerpt.
This is very useful because you will now be able to know what a group is all about before joining.
Like I remember so people joining my group and they are like, what's this group about.. So now, there's no need to those questions as the description of the group chat will be seen on top of the group info.
When a new participant joins the group using a group invite link (or an admin adds him), the new participant will see a pinned box, where it will be visible the description of the group.
However, the pinned description will vanish automatically once the user leaves the chat and it won’t display again in subsequent entrance.
Unfortunately, because the Admin Super Power feature is yet to be available on WhatsApp, any member of the group can edit the group description for now.
But when the Super Power is available , the group administrator will be able to restrict this feature, preventing anybody apart from the admins to modify the group description.
If you want to get this feature before the next official update, kindly join the whatsapp beta program on Google playstore.. Search for whatsapp, click on it and scroll down and join the beta testing program..
Personally, I think this feature is really necessary for group chats as it would help stop all unnecessary questions by members joining the group.
